The Buckeye Union High School District proudly congratulates Youngker High School senior Ava Trochez on her acceptance to Harvard University, one of the most competitive universities in the world.
Avaโs path to Harvard was a testament to her dedication, perseverance, and leadership. She completed the rigorous Common Application, including a supplemental essay, her official transcript and Youngker School Report, two teacher recommendations, and a midyear report with updated senior year GPA and class rank. Following her application, Ava was selected for an in-person interview with a Harvard alumnus, where she spent two hours discussing her academic interests and future goals.
On Ivy League Day, March 26, Ava was thrilled to find her acceptance letter in the University Portal - a moment made possible through her own initiative, as well as guidance from her family, teachers, school counselor, and the districtโs GEAR UP program, which provided support with recommendation letters, the FAFSA application, Senior Family Night, and important deadlines.
Avaโs accomplishments extend well beyond academics. She has excelled in multiple Honors and Advanced Placement courses, prepared extensively for the ACT, and contributed to her school community as a leader in the Science National Honors Society, String Orchestra, Concert Band, Student Leadership, Football, Wrestling, and Track and Field teams.
Of special note, Ava founded Youngkerโs Science National Honors Society, recruiting members, creating a culture of science exploration, organizing meetings and events, and establishing a Science Olympiad team - leaving a lasting legacy at her school.
Avaโs acceptance marks a proud moment for Youngker High, which has seen continued success in Ivy League admissions. Just last year, Valeria Hernandez Jacobo (Class of 2024) was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania.
The Buckeye Union High School District celebrates Ava Trochez for this extraordinary achievement and looks forward to seeing her continue to excel at Harvard University.
